I know I've been sporadic in posting but I'm finding that there really is a need. I know there are others compiling lists so hopefully this information will help. I can't promise I'll post every day but at least once a week.

I've found that certain ads on Craigs List don't make it through the day. Who knows if that's a good sign or not. If the ad is up after a few days, it means the horse is still for sale and potentially at risk of going to auction if a good hearted soul does not protect the horse.

He is a great candidate for a companion horse with a bit of trail or arena work, teenage or child horse in lessons or trail or light showing, walk/trot, lead line, or light trail riding. He would even be good for "we can ride" or similar theraputic programs, giving his age, size, experience level and brains (he is not spooky for an Arab). He is lower on the totem pole/herd rank, so would be a good companion for a young horse, submissive horse, or old horse. Raj has been with me for about 18 years and has taught me all I know about horses and so much more. He is only going to approved home that has experience, and with a contract. I am not desperate to sell him ore re-home him, for he means the world to me. I am willing to do so though, if only I find an equal or better situation for him than what he has now. He still is quite lively when the rider asks. He tends to adjust to his rider's ability though. A child can ride him walk/trot in an arena and he'll be good, but also and experienced teen or adult can ride him and he'll liven up and do just about anything he is asked. He is trained neck rein and direct rein, pleasure, trail and up to 2nd level dressage. He is not a dud. He leads wonderfully and has great ground matters and cute antics. He is barefoot and sound and will only go to a home with a contract where he will stay barefoot. No heavy riding, running crazy, whips, spurs or speed games with him. (he is older than he looks and acts!) you can see his array of abilities from bareback cantering (with a twine) to arena riding with a child. Butterscotch is a nice 2 year old chestnut mini mare, very delicate. Has giant blaze on her face, also thick and long blonde mane and tail. She is very shy but once she gets used to you she's really sweet. Hasn't been trained to drive or ride yet since my other mini stretch my equipment. Would make a nice trick pony, already crosses wooden bridges and climbs stairs. Not sure if she's going to get any bigger because I bought her from an auction so I know nothing about her parents. 2003 Black and White grade paint mare 15h $350

Very easy to catch, halter, ties, leads. Loads well and is good with her feet. Is UTD on vaccines, and deworming. She is broke to ride, saddles well, bridles well, we use a hack on her and she does awsome mounts easily. Learning to neck reins and does well. She will lead or follow but perfers to follow. Very friendly mare that loves attention, will follow you all over the pasture for attention.

Bullet Broke appy/cross grey gelding $600 obo

Bullet has been rode in a couple parades has also been on camping trips, threw water and rode out on trail rides. He rides out alone or in a group. He was previously an abused horse so he is shy when you saddle him so you need to saddle him slowly and then he does fine. He can also be a little hard to catch at times in a big pasture. He picks up his feet but could use more work on it, leads, ties, and trailers. Will make someone a nice trail horse or 4-h project. Experienced rider would be best until ridden more because of his shyness of being saddled and caught.

Buck dun/buckskin QH grade gelding broke $600 obo

Buck is broke to ride, saddles well, have to be slower when putting bridle on as he don't like things touching his ears. He is fine with you pedding them just don't like the bridle going over. He has been rode out on trail and does really well, calm, the first ride of the summer he can be a little more nervous until about the first 5 minutes are done and then he calms right back down. He has been rode by inexperienced adult and has done fine s with a little more riding time he would probably work out good for anyone. He loves attention and he follows you around everywhere to get pedded. Hasn't been rode since last Summer due to moving and not having the time to go ride.

Lightning bay & white Paint gelding green broke $400 obo

Lightning has been started under saddle and was rode in the round pen but not out on a trail yet. He loves attention and to be groomed. He can be a little puchy while being worked on the ground so could use some more ground manners. He leads, ties, loads, and picks up feet.

APHA reg 5yr mare. Nice paint mare. She is mostly white with some black in her tail, brown star on forhead, brown n black tipped ears, couple small spots on side and blue eye. She has thrown a sorrel & white filly from a solid sorrel QH stud. She is a nice little mare. She only has 1 eye but that don't bother her, she is very used to it and calm about it. She does best on grass hay without grain, as she had foundered in the past. "Lucky" was purchased by my sister from a killer buyer in April 09. We have been unable to trace her past, through either the sale barn she was purchased at by the killer buyer, or by her tattoo (I think I am "off" a number). She has been track broke (has tattoo), but we have never ridden her (I prefer shorter mounts, sister has had time constraints, as well as unsure of what she will do). She has since purchased another mare, and choose to find Lucky a new home where someone will put the time and attention into her, as she has been a pasture puff here for long enough. She will lunge either way, farrier and vet friendly, current on shots, de-wormer, will be due for a hoof trim beginning of FEB. I am selling her so cheap as I have never swung a leg over her and can not say how well broke she is, so going as a sound, non-rider. I feel she could excel in many areas, but I have too many critters of my own, as well as height preferences, to test a horse that I do not like. Nothing wrong with her, just not my cup of tea. I am having problems keeping this up. I did attend the Sioux Falls Regional Livestock Horse Auction and will post prices there. I bought a donkey and tried to buy a horse aftwards but it was a no go. Poor sweet mare. I know where she was headed after I found out the buyer. I'm sure he was filling his quota. Made me sick. Had to get out of the building before I started crying.

I can't report tonight either but will hopefully get a list of the horses at risk starting tomorrow and possibly back dating.

Beautiful, registered Saddlebred mare named Lakewood Symphony- chestnut color with a small patch of white on her belly, full white blaze on her forehead and four white socks. She was born in 1991 - she is 18 years old. She stands over 16 hands high. Her ground manners are a bit intimidating, she can be pushy - however once in the saddle she is a different horse. She moves out very nicely and is very smooth and a pleasure to ride. I have ridden her both western and english (hunt seat and saddle seat). She is up to date on all her shots - we give all of our horses about 7 vaccines and she is up to date with her worming schedule. She had a negative Coggins last summer, I didn't show her this summer at our local shows - so she didn't need one this year. This past winter, I noticed a bit of swelling in her knee, after having X-rays done it was determined she had a bit of a bone spur and decreased cartilage that was irritating her at a canter and causing the swelling. Because of the extra weight she was placing on her other leg while healing from the swollen knee; she developed an abscess in her front hoof at the beginning of spring that left a crack on the front of her hoof that is now half grown out. It has not had any long term effect on her soundness. She wears regular shoes on her front hoofs to prevent cracking because I ride her on gravel and on rocky trails. Keeping her at a walk-trot she has no troubles. Symphony has been a wonderful horse that introduced me to the love of saddle seat riding and gaited horses. I love her smooth gaits and her versatility from english to western riding, from around our farm to trail parks with hills and water crossings. I just had her out on a county park trail riding last weekend - she's got great endurance and never gets tired. She gets a bit nervous in the trailer but loads fairly well. I am spending far more time at the stable I ride with showing than at my own farm with my horses retired from showing and realize the lack of attention and use is starting to show. She can be such a good horse when she has more attention given to her - I wish for her a good home with someone that will also fall in love with her amazing gait and the beauty that only a Saddlebred carries. "Sterling" is an older pony gelding. Probably 10 years old or so, we did not raise him, so we cannot guarantee the age, but he's a good guy who needs a great home! He did great on the pony rides, but is a shy boy, who doesn't fare well with our large group of gelding ponies. Not only does he have a hard time getting his fair share at feeding time, but he gets into fights with the other "boys" in the trailer on the way to rides. He does well with the mares or by himself, doesn't start fights, but gets "picked on" A LOT! He would be a perfect gentleman for someone to lead kids on, or for a stronger medium-sized kid to ride by themselves. Unlike most of the ponies we have for sale, we think he may have been ridden out before we had him. GS Andrews Tigress or "Dixie" is a great little horse. Dixie is 3 years old and is a strawberry roan snowcap registered Appaloosa. She stands around 14.2 hands and should grow a littly more. She has great comformation and breeding. She is not broke, but I have sat on her with halter and lead rope and walked around a bit, she did wonderful! She will be pretty easy to break. I have a 6yo 14.3 hand quarab im looking to find a good home. She was returned to me from a lease with a torn tendon/ligament in June. Since then she had been stalled at a friends house till yesterday and was doing great but i ran out of money for shavings and square bales (i spent all my money on rounds for my 2 horses at home for the winter/spring) Now she is in my pasture at home which isnt doing her much good healing wise. Her leg is back to being swollen. I wish i could keep her there and get her back to riding again but im 17 and dont have alot of money. She is a sweetheart and once she gets to know you she is your best friend. She is broke to ride and rides english and western so once she is healed (if she heals as planned) she could be back in the saddle for light riding at least. She has had one foal and it was beautiful but it didnt live longer than 24 hours as it was premature. She has also orphaned foals i have rescued and was great at it. Im looking to either trade her for another horse that is around 15.2-16.2 hands 2yo-12yo or sell her outright with the GUARENTEE she will not go to slaughter or be abused. She is way to good of a horse to succumb to that even if she is just a companion or broodmare. P.S I purchased her as a yearling for the same price at an auction severly underweight, she had 90 days of pro training as a 3yo ($600 a month) then i finished her off. Smoky is a 15+hand thoroughbred cross gelding. He's about 14 years old but don't let that stop you. He'd be an excellent trail horse and can literally go all day. Would be great for endurance riding and I've been told many many times that he would be a beautiful english horse(don't know for sure but been told that because of how he holds his head and he has a great extended and slow trot) Has had no health issues. This geldings name is Kruser he is a grade gelding but his birthday is on his sire's papers...His sire is Jacks Caballero King. He was born 4-15-00 He is a beautiful dark buskin with high black stockings. We got him when he was 3 and "green" broke, from neighbors down the road who do mostly ranch work with their horses and wanted to sell kruser because he wasn’t fast enough. He was ridden and used in 4-H two years ago. Although he is a very smart and capable horse he gets nervous off of the farm place away from the herd because he has not been used and exposed enough to other environments and horses. His last trip we tailored to a friend’s pasture and he did great. No one has ridden him for 2 years because the kids lost interest in the horses when they started competing in sports. Within the last year he has come down with a mild case of heaves. He has visited 2 vets both who confirm heaves but say there is nothing they can do for him. He could be used for light riding. Kruser seems to get worse and better with the seasons. Fall (harvest) is probably the worst for him. He is one of the most personable horses you will ever meet! So nice to be around, a really quick learner, and a nice handy size. He is UTD on shots. Does good for the vet, farrier etc. We are just unable to give our horses the attention they deserve and want to find Kruzer a home where he will be loved. This listing is for a young, well bred, healthy horse with no soundness issues that has a long life ahead of her to give to a new family. She is a registered and is being sold with her papers. She is 8 years old and stands between 15 and 15.1 hands. This mare came to us with 90 days of training under her belt. We purchased her about 4 years ago after her owner died. As we are not experienced riders, she spent quite a bit of time here without being asked to ride. Knowing that we were going to list her for sale (because we need to cut back) - over the past month my husband and daughter have put some time in on her to see where things were at and she has been pretty awesome about the whole riding experience for not having been riden much. Her disposition is out of this world, she loves people, loves kids, and she stands like an angel for shots, farrier work, getting tacked up and/or letting you get on her. We have had her under saddle just a few times, but she does prefer that you ride bareback right now as we have done mostly that with her. Although she has been good for us, she has been known to pull some shenanigans on strangers when it comes to riding, not so much bare back but particularly under saddle. Thus we can only sell her as green broke and she needs to go to an experienced rider with a gentle hand to build a relationship with her and get her riding and going under saddle for them. She has been broke and ridden, but not for a year. Dolly has registration papers. I have a 6yo 14.3 hand quarab im looking to find a good home. She was returned to me from a lease with a torn tendon/ligament in June. Since then she had been stalled at a friends house till yesterday and was doing great but i ran out of money for shavings and square bales (i spent all my money on rounds for my 2 horses at home for the winter/spring) Now she is in my pasture at home which isnt doing her much good healing wise. I wish i could keep her there and get her back to riding again but im 17 and dont have alot of money. She is a sweetheart and once she gets to know you she is your best friend. She is broke to ride and rides english and western so once she is healed (if she heals as planned) she could be back in the saddle for light riding at least. She has had one foal and it was beautiful but it didnt live longer than 24 hours as it was premature. She has also orphaned foals i have rescued and was great at it. Im looking to either trade her for another horse that is around 16 hands or sell her outright with the GUARENTEE she will not go to slaughter or be abused. She is way to good of a horse to succumb to that even if she is just a companion or broodmare. P.S before all this my friend was going to buy her for $1800 so she is well worth what im asking even though she needs some off time. I'm staring this blog to list all of the potentially "at risk" horses being advertised on Craigs List and other places. I'm seeing an abundance of "thinning the herd" and wanted to give these horses an additional avenue for exposure.

At this point I'm not sure anyone will view this blog but I'm hoping to somehow pass along the information. The most important part is finding good, permanent homes for these horses.
